Sydney one of the world’s safest cities

16.9.13Buying investment property involves taking a wide range of features into account, but perhaps one of the most important is how safe your tenants will feel. After all, they’ll want to feel a sense of security when they start living in a particular area, which could mean that Sydney is in even higher demand than ever.

A recent report from The Economist’s Intelligence Unit has ranked Sydney one of the safest cities in the world. The findings were compiled based on digital security, health security, infrastructure safety and personal safety.

The Safe Cities Index for 2015 shows the Harbour City as the most secure in Australia, as well as ranking highly on a global scale. In fact, it polled higher than many other notable locations including the likes of London, Hong Kong, New York and San Francisco.

Sydney’s Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the results show growing confidence in the city, which is why so much investment is being made in ensuring its future.

“We take seriously our responsibility to increase and enhance community health and safety and we run many programs to reduce crime and increase safety on roads and streets,” Ms Moore commented.

“We work closely with many NSW government agencies and community groups to improve safety and maintain our well-deserved reputation as an inclusive, welcoming city that strives to improve the well-being of the one million visitors, workers and residents in the city each day.”

Of course, Sydney also has plenty more going for it besides its status as a safe city. Recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed that property prices in the NSW capital increased 12.2 per cent between the December quarters of 2013 and 2014.

Between the September and December quarters of last year, property prices have witnessed a rise of 3.4 per cent.
